Much of my bonsai hobby is very experimental in terms of style and method, just like my art and poetry.
In the process of pruning an older ficus, I decided to remove a branch that had a pretty good sized air root growing down from it. A difficult decision but ultimately worth the loss to get a better result. This is the cutting and attached root, planted in a similar orientation to the one on the original tree. I don't know how well it will survive, but these are hardy trees, and conditions are very good for growing tropicals here in the South Florida summer.
Pretty sure more than a few people are going to hate it, but had to try, hoping it establishes and that the air root lignifies a bit to hold the branch in position.
A tree with no trunk - a growing log suspended by a few roots.
