I set this airlayer in May or June of 2020 and removed it from the parent tree in September iirc. It has been in spaghnum moss with maybe 10% native dirt thrown on top.

I’m looking for advice on design and also want to show off my best airlayer so far (I’m very new)

I plan to leave it in this pot for another year at least and chop the pot down around it so it is getting as much sunlight as possible to stimulate lower budding.

Welcome to Crazy!

Haha, thanks! Speaking of crazy check out this tree. Recently moved and our new property has an amazing variety of trees. I’ve been planning which I’m going to airlayer, I’m limiting myself to 10 per yr lol

I'm assuming you live in Texas? That's where all the cedar elms typically come from... and that second plant looks like a wolfberry like down by the Rio Grande.

I think it is Bluewood condalia, not sure if wolf berry is a common name for that?

Hey neighbor.

Let it grow out so you actually have something to work with. Eliminate shoots that are inside the curves. Probably grow a new leader so you have some taper. Looks like there might be some reverse taper going on towards the top, might be just the picture? I see a few future directions for it... Either a literati which would be the quickest, or a curvey fuller image "pine tree style" which would be a longer road of growing out branches for proper sizes and ramification.

Howdy neighbor!

No reverse taper, not much taper at all ;(

I’m going to cut the pot down today and get some better pictures. I’m thinking about airlayer after the twist. Probably let it grow out as is and then make a decision once I have some branches to work with.

Pot cut down to allow sunlight in, and some better pics. Also a few pics of another cedar elm that was given to me (the first hit is free lol).

Still alive! Had an emergency repot last year in August due to rotting moss from air layering. Just beginning to bud out.
