Just an FYI, if you don't have a local supplier of Akadama and have to get yours shipped to you, EasternLeaf.com has the best deal I've been able to find going right now.

Their 14L bags are on sale for $39/each, plus you'll get a 10% accessory sale discount at checkout and to top it off, it doesn't matter how many bags you order, you can get $7.95 flat rate shipping. That's $7.95 total shipping cost, not per bag.

There are places that have a cheaper per bag price, but combine it with shipping and I can't find anyone that can come close to touching this overall price.

Anyway, just wanted to share in case someone else needed any Akadama.

Thanks for the info. I may buy a bag. Have you bought from them before?

Thanks! I've been searching for some cheaper bags of the hard akadama. I got my previous calculation for shipping incorrect. I had to edit this post. lol ;) Thanks for introducing that cool site.

I got tons of the stuff medium and small. Let me know if want. I paid 29$ a bag. So 29$ plus shipping its yours. I think I got 15 bags of each left. I've kinda moved away from it.

What brand of hard akadama is it? There's a product out called ryusen....it's not all that hard. Strange too that its got japanese writing on the bag and a photo of Walter Palls Rocky Mountain juniper???? Go figure..

Kinda looks like this, from EasternLeaf.com

Yes, that's the stuff. If you've ever used the red line brand of hard akadama this stuff sucks. Not at all hard and its crumbly. The old red line brand is the good stuff. I guess of you mix with pumice and add a top dressing this stuff could work. Although it will not last as long in a pot before disintegrating.
