Saw this material on a nice woodland walk,Chopped it practically in half to where i determined would be best new leader and took the branches back to about 1 leaf all around

Didnt work on carving that hard chop til it hardened a bit and just let it finish its dormancy..
Collected april 2nd and didnt open up til about a month later..all its buds popped nice and leaves were healthy.. Just the other day noticed another push of growth, being its first year collected it will be some time before it is anything to write home about..but i like it nonetheless..

Good call on leaving it alone. The first flush was just based on reserves. Only with the new growth are you sure that it is back into rooting and growing area. I would just let it do its thing this year.
