I collected this tree in 2019. All growth was on one side. I was hoping it would push buds on the other but it never did. This raft project was my solution. Completely removed bark and cambium on one side. Cleaned and cut again with a razor blade. Hormone and sphagnum, then some rafia to keep it all snug. Nice mycorrhiza on the roots of mother plant. Add some of that to raft mix. Repotted and wired together. The third from the left will be brought up and into the main apex

Just wanted to say really cool idea doing the raft. I really hope I'll see some sweet updates this spring and summer.. I have two beech trees both in development and a handful of seedlings. One tricolor beech and one European beech,. Something about beech and hornbeam I enjoy.. I have maybe 50 or so trees and not one Japanese maple 😉

I’m very curious how this goes, I have an abundance of beech material I can dig. This is a very cool idea for beech.
