I collected several elms this spring from my Dad's property. Thought it would be cool to develop a few bonsai from the land I used to play on as a kid.

I'm not sure if they are American or Cedar Elms. They were growing in a forested area under larger trees. Leaves feel somewhat rough and almost furry. Maybe, cedar elms?

What do you think? Thanks!

If your dad's property is close to Edmond, then it may be a bit too far north for most Cedar elm. Also, the sharp points at the tips of the leaves look different than what I have collected around the Sherman, TX area. If I had to wager, I'd guess American elm, but if you see it flower in the fall then definitely Cedar elm.

His land is actually in NE Oklahoma closer to Tulsa than OKC. I don't think his flower in the fall. Any differences in growth habits for bonsai between the two?
