This winter I pruned the Amur maple very hard almost too hard.Correct me if I’m wrong this year I will do nothing other than let the root develop.I cut two branches very high because that’s where most of the buds were breaking. Next year ware should I make my cut. Help me style this Amur maple I know it’s far from it. It is a learning tree but with your guidance will be very Helpful

I would leave only one of those two long branches as a sacrifice, and get rid of the other. Also, if you cut off all the tips of the sacrifice branch mid-summer, you will see more vigorous growth in the branches down low, which are the ones you want to develop as your future branches.

After asking for guidance @MACH5 said he would prune all trunks to two inches above the base and @cbroad showed you a virt of pruning the same way. So why did you leave a 4’ trunk on there?

Fair enough because this MarchI pruned very hard and I didn’t see any buds down low so I cut it First visual buds were popping in other words I was scared.

Those two branches high because that’s where they were buds Breaking.Wanted to cut those two branches down very low as Mach5 Stated. Safety measures I left them for now.

Here’s a pic as of today Training The roots late last winter. I cut the root very very hard . I have very little experience .I should’ve cut the top way lower but out of precaution. I left it I will cut that Late this winter. Thanks for asking. This tree is a learning experience for me .Tree was very cheap I’ve done some wrongs on it but I’m learning from it but it is still alive as of now. Lol
