Just wanted to post another tree I recently collected. This is an Ashe juniper that was growing on a southern embankment.

Spent like 8 hours at a club dig and couldn't find anything like this that wasn't gargantuan by my standards :/ What part of the state did you dig this fella up?

What is gargantuan to you? This is close to Abilene, Texas. Did you get to take anything home with you after the dig?

My old stomping grounds at Dyess. Wish I'd been into bonsai back then, I would have been all over the cedar elm.

Do you remember actually coming across cedar elm? I can only find American elm and hackberry around here. Dyess brings lots of great people to the area!

Some, but more mesquite than anything. Lots of Ashe Juniper further south towards Austin, but that's where I know cedar elm is.

A friend and I have been collecting out on the cap rock outside of Lubbock, Most of what we find are supposedly One Seed Junipers. But there are also red-berried Pinchot Junipers. I thought that I saw a photo of a tree with red berries.

That’s awesome! Maybe we could meet up and collect some bonsai together! Y’all could come find some Ashe and I could find some one seed! Let me know if you’re ever interested! Post some pictures if you have any. The red berry and one seed are similar from what I hear and I think y’all are in a cross over area as well

Awesome tree… Jealous!
My wife and I are in Austin monthly (Dripping to be exact) Or at least we were going before the plague. Every time we are there I have fantasies of digging up every Ashe!

nice, I have a couple in my backyard, not as well developed as this one. I'm letting them grow for now, with some level of root containment.

Hello jbogard, I collected 2 ashe junipers in Feb. 2020. Removed all the rootball dirt with garden hose. Submerged the roots for 3 weeks, Potted them in boon mix, left them in the shade for 5 or 6 weeks, and I watched them slowly die. I did what i saw others do on YouTube. But from your pics, I see you wrap the rootball in plastic wrap. The next pic shows the tree in white rocks, is the rootball you dug up under the white rocks? What is the step by step process ? I have Attached my the tree pics for you. Thanks.
