Spring 2021! I've posted these pictures in the Seasonal Work! thread, but I'll post them here too to keep the progression going. As a reminder, spring work on broadleaf trees for me involves:

1) cutting off interior leaves on extending shoots. This allows light and air into the interior of the tree, keeping weak interior shoots healthy
2) selecting shoots you want to keep for the basic branch structure and pruning off the others
3) pruning back to extending growth to create movement and taper
4) wiring shoots while they’re still green and flexible to establish the branch shape

Wounds from the collection are healing steadily. Lower one is pretty big - it will take a while. In the meantime, I can use the opportunity for trunk and nebari development.

That’s a great move, I have to watch for vine weevils eating all the new roots when I do it though, just a thought. :)
