I bought this from Brent(2) last fall, stuck into a pond basket - now I'm trying to wade thru all the foliage. I put a piece of wire on one large, lower branch - part to give some symmetry, part to just get a look inside. Next up, proper repot, decided what to do with those roots. This was a one gallon plant, an absolute ton of roots. Any advice, besides using a lighted magnifier? My eyes are having trouble on this one 😣

Because boxwood are basically all fiber roots, I have found pond baskets of little use with them and I use regular pots. No harm with the baskets but I get better growth in regular nursery pots. I have found the same to be true with azaleas and no longer pot them in pond baskets either.

That's good to know- I put it into a standard training pot, mix of Boons and extra akadama, after teasing out the roots. Will circle back around to trimming in a few weeks, open it up a little.

Thanks!

Wire carefully with aluminum and select bigger diameter wire than usual for safest approach. Boxwood is trickier to wire and change branch direction or shape. Although your plant is younger and should be not as difficult as older material, I find it is best to thin them out and remove new growth in unwanted areas frequently to focus the energy in areas desired.
