Touched up the live wood carving I did yesterday, going a little bit deeper into the trunk… This will look good after the newly carved wood has aged a bit. Applied cut paste to the edge of the live park to prevent die back. I’ll probably work it more this fall after leaf drop.

Hey Dave. Is it you that uses duct seal as a cut paste? Or @rockm ?

Hope that wrist is felling better. 👍🏻

I’ve been using duct seal for four or five years… Works great.
I thought that was you. I’ve been using beeswax for a few years, but I can only work it when it’s warm. I’m going to give it a try.

Oh yeah. I spread that stuff a handful of times during my construction days.

So, I just wired out the last bits of foliage that pushed in August, and I removed the wire from the cascading branch. The tree is healing nicely from the carving I did last June, too. The tree should be dropping leaves in the next month or so, and I’ll get some naked pictures then :). More carving to come this fall and winter, too.

Interesting! You’re letting the shoots grow out... these things are weird!
Yeah, they are! I'm hoping the fact that this one has been on an uber high nitrogen diet and all the branching on this thing isn't even 2 years old yet has some thing to do with it.

I thinned this one out over the weekend… There’s the trunk again! I removed proximal leaves on all the shoots, as well as any new branches that weren’t needed. This one will get cut back hard in a few weeks… Might get wired out again at that point.

Last week, this was cut back, partially defoliated and re-wired as per the youtube viewed recommendation for Ume spring time work by the one and only 2 million dollar man, Bjorn:p... fwiw, the dormant buds are already swelling!

Looking like at least a million! fwiw Treated mine the same way and the dormant buds are new leaves already! So far they seem smaller:eek:
