Is there someone here using a cloning system for maples and such? If so, what system do you use and what kind of results are you getting?

Not sure if you've seen this thread by @cmeg1, it's pretty extensive: Here

He is using an aeroponic cloner, mostly other deciduous but I think he had some maples in there at one point. Seems he has his system pretty well fined tuned.

When I was growing cuttings on a larger scale, I built a small wooden frame and drilled holes into the wood and stuck flexible PVC (cant remember the name) on each side in a hoop fashion and covered with clear plastic. Inside I set up a PVC sprinkler system with a timer that went off at regular intervals. It worked great, and was simple. Need a couple 2x4's, a plastic painters sheets, some PVC, sprinkler heads, and a timer.

Different varieties and different pre-treatments make variable results. If you have a way to prepare the mother for a couple months or even a month, you have better results.
The zelkova rooted big time in a month...and were always fertilized with motherplant formula.
The hawthorn from outside tree looks about 7 years old...not most ideal, but I have treated it since Spring with mother fertilizer.....massive callusing at 2 mnths.......not giving up though...neat experiment really.
I am using clone king& a turbo clone with the recipe below....weed growers get their cuttings to root in 4 days with this formula using clonex gel....I used dip&grow for the trees at 20x strength for 15 minutes dip.
I am going to perform seedling air-layers in the aeroponic cloner when zelkova seedlings are 3/16” thick,I will uproot, ringbark, and then put in cloner with ringbark and roots below the neoprene collar in resevoir...I expect it to work.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate all of this info. It is exactly what I was looking for.
One question, I am looking at both types of cloners now and this naturally brings the question, Is there one system you prefer over the other? And if you were to spend the money on just one system now and the other later, where would you start?

Turbo Klone.........be prepared for the fan attachment to break though and will have to seal the 1/8” hole with waterproof caulk...works very efficiently.........if u have the funds look into maybe easyclone or botanicares cloner machine.
Possibly the Botanicare....powerclone I think its called......fan is uneccessary in a 70 degree room with hygrozyme added....i prefer it over any bleach or pool shock

Turbo klone is working and spraying great though aside from the broken fan hole.
Clone king is low quality

Hmm, this might be the real difference between Tropical and others.

Cuttings - save for J.B. pine, don't need chemicals.
Just seed trays, a sterile mix and in 3 weeks roots.

Good Day Chemists

I would probably get a botanicare....I will eventually upgrade ,myself
Get the dome too!
I really like the Botanicare products but nobody anywhere around me carries them and we are talking big bucks at any rate. I found a good deal on an E Z Klone 32 and should have it Wednesday. Its a start. I also ordered everything to follow your formula.
I may not get a chance to try maples this year but I have a lot of tropicals that need pruning now.

Yea I hear ez clone is good.Tropicals ought to be easy I would think.
I am going to perform air layers in mine on seedlings.Just uproot from seed tray and then ringbark for an air-layer.Then put roots and ringbark below the collar in the resevoir to hopefully see roots that do not need watering.
It is fairly easy myold way in the soil, butsomewhat tedious. Excited for this and preparing the seedlings of coreana hornbeam and zelkova like tiny motherplants that root more easily.Zelkova root in days.
I really think it feasable that can do entire seedling air-layer process bareroot in an aeroponic cloner.

I got my E Z Clone today and I really like it. It is very tough and well made and literally took 5 minutes to set up. I cant imagine anything working better. I am getting extremely good coverage in a test run.
I am ready to go, Except, I am wondering what kind of timer you are using to cycle on and off in hour and in 15 minute increments like you are doing.

I meant to post earlier but got busy. I bought all the stuff to DIY one. I may do a tutorial if I can get it done and am successful with the cuttings.

Very cool. I have all kinds of confidence in you.
I am waiting on my pH adjuster. I plan to start some Fuji and Okame cherries. Also have a list of other things in my yard. I will have all 32 slots filled quickly.
