I rescued this HD Japanese Holly from Home Depot, but I have no experience with the species. I have heard they are sensitive to root work, but handle pruning very well. So far I have:

-Dug out the nebari
-Found the front I liked the best
-Selected lower branches that I liked
-Eliminated branches that would cause inverse taper
-Thinned the top a bit so the lower branches got more light
-Gently bent down some branches with guy wires

The tree was dry and as root bound as any usual piece of HD stock. The leaves were dry, but not brown or falling off. I am unsure how to proceed in the spring with this species. I was thinking of half bare rooting first in the spring, and chopping the top when it regains some strength/vigor.

This is the eventual plan for it (chop the top and further move down the branches).

Any help is appreciated! :D
