Hi all!

I just noticed some spots on my Arakawa’s leaves and I’m wondering if it’s leaf burn or perhaps something fungal? Any thoughts are appreciated!

I have arakawa maple, and have had both leaf burn and fungus. I know both all too well. Neither look like your pictures, where I see mostly small black dots.

Fungus on maple (in general) results in black margins and leaf curling, often on weaker, smaller leaves. Sun damage at top, or where sunlight is strongest and is geographic (an area), like a sun burn. On my trees, seems like center of leaf often involved.

Thanks for the response! That definitely helps. I’ll keep an eye it to see if the leaves begin to curl. Do you think I should spray a bio fungicide to be safe?

Tthis looks very similar to tar spot fungus.

Not super harmful. Be sure to clean up any fallen debris. Avoid mulching Maple Leaves in garden or lawn.

If you really want to use a fungicide spray all surface every 2-4 weeks. Your choice on selection as long as the fungicide is labeled for Tar spot. My favorite is 3% Hydrogen Peroxide in this case 2TBSP/pint. (Could use up to 4 TBSP/Pt after thatc5ge leaves get affected.

cheers
