Yeah it seems so similar.
I did not decandle this year, probable will choose buds now and aim for a similar tree.

I think i might lack a bit of taper...

Oh man... this tree has been hard on me to decide where to take it.
The lower part is so straight

Doesn’t look straight in the pic. Very mild movement but it’s tilted and has that subtle movement, bit of taper too + nice bark.
Is it so bad?

It might not be so bad... I just look at it and get fixated to it.
I just need to find the direction for this.
It seems like it would fit a "@Dav4 drop down branch pine"

It looks great in the virt but I wonder if the top branch isn't too skinny. unfortunately since it's dead it won't ever get thicker, and it may shrink up pretty good once you remove the bark. Hope not, this tree is making me want a JBP again

Is a Japanese red pine.
It might be skinny but I can reduce the thicker part to make it more believable

I have never had white creepy crawlies on the soil, but suggest a really good spray of a systemic insecticide

I just saw this while wiring... no idea what they are

Springtails.

All good, they are good sign. A healthy and hospitable environment. Do not try to kill.
They are good. Don’t worry :).

Looking in to terrariums, people suggest to forcefully introduce them as they create a good environment.
Research them for more info. My elms have them too.

However you should, as a general rule, spray with systematic pesticide and fungicide for other reasons. Not sure it’ll affect the springtails. If it does, more will come.
No problem.

The green looks less radioactive than the pic.

In order for decandeling to work, the tree has to be well fertilized prior to the procedure, the procedure has to be carried out at the proper time, depending on the results you hope to achieve. I believe this to be a Japanese Black Pine? Usually the idea behind decandeling a JBP is the desire to get a second flush of growth. You live in the Southern Hemisphere therefore your seasons are backward from ours. You want to do this about now in your climate zone.

Yes, it has been fertilized heavily. But the same as last year.
Its Japanese red pine.
Thanks, Vance.

Lost so many branches decandling... I am starting to dislike red pines in favor of black pines

Base of tree is showing dark green Liverworts. Bad to have and a sign of too much wetness. Perhaps part of your trees difficulty is too much H2O:confused:? Red Pine much better than JBP. Not common weeds everybody else has😴.
