After attending the 30th annual GSBF Convention a couple of weeks ago, I am curious how many other people attend bonsai conventions.

Without getting too personal, can anyone estimate how much money one might spend attending a convention, excluding paid sessions and purchases? I need to make a budget if I'm ever to go.

I voted "never", as that was the closest reply. I've actually been to the site of two bonsai conventions, but only visited the vendor areas and public display, never as a paid attendee.

I did not do any workshops. I just attended the convention, and did buy the extra Pirate bash ticket at 60.00.

The extra motel night was 65.00.

The three nights at the convention hotel at the convention rate was 89.00 a night which was very reasonable for the hotel.

Figureing gas, eats not included in the registration, hotel costs, about 850.00 for me. Thats not includeing what I spent on the extra motel night and the goodies I bought. That was about 600.00 more. Bringing me to about 1450.00 for the weekend.

Now.... I get to do this all again in February! Wahooo!

If you are into bonsai...I mean into bonsai, the experience is unforgettable.

Al ,
$89 a night is a very reasonable rate for a hotel with good convention facilities. I wish they were all that well priced.
