Hi,

I read a rumor on Facebook that the Artisans Cup will be delayed until September 2015.

I haven't seen an official announcement. Do you know if this is true?

Thanks

Jorge

If you go to both Ryan's and michael's websites nothing is being said to confirm what is being reported. In fact Ryan's home page still has the dates prominently displayed. ??????

I just heard about the cancellation from two of Ryans students in Denver today. I was really looking forward to it.

Really? My wide and I were planning to go. Is this for sure?

I contacted Michael Hagedorn last night:

"Hey Michael, sorry to bother you. There are a bunch of rumors about the Artisans Cup being postponed to 2015. Can you tell me if it's true?"

Michael: "Yes- postponed till 2015. We'll have a great show then-"

From talking to Ryans students, it sounds like he said he was just streched too thin... had too much going on. But I'm sure there is more to it than that. I guess we'll be looking forward to it for a while longer... lol

I have to admit that when I first heard about this (I think it was announced at the Rochester show last summer), I thought it sounded like a rather ambitious timetable. The first show is always the most difficult, getting all the logistics squared away. Better to postpone and get it right than to rush through the process and come up short.

Bummer. The wife and kids were planning on going. I was actually just about to book the flight. Good thing I didn't.:(

I too was looking forward to this cup. But I agree Chris, better to wait and get it right. Well...maybe by then I might have something to enter ;)

What are the reasons for the postponement, does anyone know?
Hard to Say Judy. But anyone putting a show together, finds it hard enough to get trees let alone if you charge...120 usd per tree.

All entries received before the deadline will be considered in the Jury process. Once your tree has been accepted by the Jury tree owners will need to pay a fee of $120 per tree to exhibit it

Well whatever the reasons, I do hope that they publicize the postponement publicly, so people don't buy airfare and lodging, not knowing it's been canceled for now.

I agree, Judy. The website still says October 4-6, 2013. I like to plan my trips way in advance if possible so I can get better deals on flights.

Come on, guys! Let's be a little more professional! This schedule change should have been made public as soon as it was decided. Ryan wants to elevate the status of bonsai in the U.S. (and I'm all for it), but this kind of thing is a turn off.

was able to confirm the "rumor".
I think what needs to be taken away from all this is, It's a difficult project to take on, especially for the first time and in this economy, and It's imortant to be supportive so that this thing gets up and running and becomes something positive for the hobby.
This situation reminds me of history's lessons for many military conflicts around the world. better to have a timely retreat, to be able to fight again another day.
I commend Ryan and Michael for trying to make this thing happen and hopefully in 2015
conditions will be such that this event can come to fruition.

I guess I'm just disappointed that an official update or news release has not been made publicly by now. Many vendors, interested participants and visitors have expressed interest in attending and all they have so far are "rumors" to base their attendance. not cool.

Its Sad to hear.

Lets face it those guys are still young. It take a huge effort to put on any show let alone the biggest and best ever. I was worried for them form the outset.

We just put on our 90th bonsai show for the public. 2500 attended, we got it well oiled. Still takes a huge push to get er done.

Valavanis has the experience. I wish the guys would start a little smaller, get a couple under their belts.

There is No rush to overhaul bonsai in America as we know it, I think...

good growing,

I agree. They can do better for sure.
