(FTP) Hi, I've been growing this shishigashira in a nursery pot for 2 years and potted it up this Feb (2025). It dropped some leaves in the heat of summer (South Carolina USDA zone 8) and now it's putting out new leaves! We're supposed to get our first hard freeze in two days - what should I do to protect it?

Don't protect it. It has made a tiny mistake. Let the cold weather remind it that Winter is coming and it needs to go dormant. Trying to keep it growing through Winter is probably much worse.
One year I pruned JM late and had new shoots at the start of our Winter. Those trees retained green leaves right through Winter but went back to normal in Spring.

We had an unusually hot and dry summer here in NC. Many of my JM got scorched, and some are throwing out a few late leaves. Don't worry about it - just let nature do its thing.

Been a confusing year for some of my JMs too. Several were still pushing new leaves until a week or two ago

Thanks all! I'll let it do it's thing with my other JM. I appreciate having a such a great community!
