I'm getting worried about my azaleas, after they finished flowering, they started dropping leaves and Im not sure if its because of the sun (they are moved to shade) or watering cycle (immediately i stopped watering and Im maintaining close eye on the soil not to go too dry).
I lost one azalea like that last year and i don't want to loose other the same way.
Twigs are still green and not dry but without leaves.
In Sydney AU its beginning of the hot summer season.

I'm sorry to say it but the first azalea is dead and the second is right behind it. I suspect either fungal disease/root rot or they dried out. I've found that once portions of an azalea start to die, it's impossible to remedy.

Doesn't look good but don't throw it out yet...don't overwater for now and keep it somewhat shaded and it may bud back if it is not completely dead.

Same thing happened to me last spring. Azalea greened up nicely, flowered, then promptly died. Roots weren't rotted and it was well watered. fungus I guess.

weird thing is that it happened to azalea that was not only purchased and had no radical work done on her but also one with fresh soil.... as mentioned it is getting less sun and water for now so keeping fingers crossed. twigs are still alive and theres bit of growth on the ends popping up so hopefully it will pick up.
thank you guys for help, really appreciate it

I had some Satsukis that I burnt with fertiliser. They all shed their leaves and looked terrible but the branches was green when I scratched it. Stood still for a while but eventually bounced back. Fingers crossed for you ;)

seems like theres new growth popping here and there so fingers crossed.
Is there any way I could help it a little?
Would you suggest to add a bit of Seasol to stimulate root growth?

Shade it

I've kept Azaleas for years, shade it after flowering and mist the leaves every third day. Spray the tree with anti fungal solution without it getting to much into the soil. Someone said the first one is gone. As long as you have some green, it can survive.
