I love this azalea with flowers. Yes, it throws proportions way out, to the point of absurdity, which is why I like it in flower. Sometimes bonsai is so quite, constrained, peaceful, meditative & serene it f*****g puts me to sleep. The flowers pop, bang, okay, I'm awake and I'm going to look at you baby. And aren't you cute.
It is perfectly acceptable to have a tree that visually demands attention for a month or so each year. You can go back into the Zen trance when flowers are done.
If I did not like flowers, I would only grow boxwoods. The whole point of Satsuki is the riotous display of flowers. I have a dozen azalea, and only one boxwood. Generally I hate deciduous trees that don't have color at least one season each year.
