Last spring I potted up some pine yearlings that were growing in my garden and then I kinda forgot about them... They grew pretty well, being neglected and all.. I just used potting soil with perlite and some pebbles for extra drainage.
I want to train one as a semi-cascade. The others, I don't know yet. I plucked the needles to grow some more branches close to the base There are some buds there already. The leader is left to grow as a sacrifice branch to thicken the trunk. The semi-cascade pushed roots all the way trough the drainage holes, so that's nice.
Next year they will be put in colanders or larger containers with pumice and akadama. Just a fun little side project. This thread will be their baby memory book.
Does anyone have experience with growing scots pine from seed or developing them from at early stage?
