Stuck this in a strainer last year as a one year old seedling no roots to speak on at the time. No normally Hackberry roots are kinda tuberous so whatcha think? No pruning I just shook out the soil.View attachment 132308
That's why I put deciduous trees in colanders. For the 2 reasons shown. Dense fine feeder roots and killer growth.
I think it looks like it did the desired thing for you.
