Dec 2021 2" thick trunk & 5' tall from July 2020 as a 1/4" thick whip. These things are amazing!

Not sure on style yet, but maybe upright or broken top. This spring I will prune the roots for the first time and get it into a shallower/wider container as I'd like to get it at least 4" thick at the base and start developing some taper. I bought a dozen whips in 2020 (~ $3.00 each) and will probably experiment on some that are only 1" thick first, maybe a forest planting. Also my in-laws live in Columbia SC, so next time we are down there I will reach out to John Geangel and try to get a session with him to learn how to work with BC.

Here is my 18 month old from seed for comparison. I get really good trunk taper with my 55 gal drum cutoff pot and the soil kept flooded in warm months.
This tree most likely will be chopped in 2023.
