Bald Cypress Jin

I want to jin the top of a bald cypress. Once I have created the jin, how do I keep it from sprouting at the edges of the jin?

I have not had any problems keeping growth away from a jinned top. Usually if I start getting buds coming from areas where they don't belong I just rub the bud off with my fingers.
