When is the best time to repot Bamboo? I've had a forest that I created about 3 years ago and its starting to be where I want it but I have never repoted it. I know it needs repotting but not sure to repot in spring or in the summer. I have looked everywhere but cannot find any recommedations on the best time to repot.

The best time to dig/move/repot bamboo is in the very early spring or late winter just before it starts sending up new shoots. It becomes extremely sensitive to having roots severed, being moved or drying out after the culms have sent up new canes or after the leaves emerge.

Kirk,

Thank you for your reply, do you have any bamboo as Bonsai?

Kirk,

Thank you for your reply, do you have any bamboo as Bonsai?

None for bonsai or accent. I have it in the garden and in large containers. Most of what I have was grown in-ground by a local nurseryman and had to be dug during the time I recommended. If you are looking for some rare and unusual varieties near you, the Bamboo Farm and Coastal Gardens has a wide variety (last time I checked). It is one of the UGA ag. experiment stations located in Savannah.

Best always,
Kirk
