I've been reading on evergreengardenworks.com about JBP's but its a really difficult read and I need to learn more about basic pine physiology before I can fully understand what I'm reading. Can anyone refer me to some more basic pine literature. A book or website or anything.

I just got the "Bonsai today masters series" on pines and it is good.

I would watch Ryan Neil lecture one. Then rewatch it. It will teach you things that have taken lifetimes to figure out.

Julian Adams article in International Bonsai 2012 issue #2 page 16 has a lot of information. And I second the suggestion for Ryan Neil's video.
