I bought this as a prebonsai from wigerts as a had just started getting interested in bonsai last year. Since then, I’ve repotted it with the help of my local club, and just fertilizer regularly. After drying out once in the summer, I’ve since kept it submerged and the growth and trunk thickness have definitely been much better. After getting in a year of experience, I’ve realized the tree has no taper, no nebari, no movement in the trunk. From what I understand, trunk chopping will not build taper, but it will allow me to start fresh and bring movement into the new trunk. My thoughts are chop it down the lowest shoot, and wire that shoot. I’m also planning to repot into a much bigger container in the spring, because there’s still lots of growth and thickening to do.
