Here in SE Pennsylvania, it has been a mild, wet summer, as summers go in this area. We have had regular, soaking rains and generally warm temperatures, with little truly hot weather. The nights are already cooling down slightly from where they were last month.

I am wondering if my Japanese maple is healthy, and just a bit "strung out" on summer or if it looks unhealthy? I keep it in full sun so maybe the leaves are just suffering a bit from this?

Awesome. Repot and ground layer this spring to eliminate the atrocious graft union.

Id be careful keeping it too wet with that moss around the base if it has been raining a ton with very humid weather. I dont moss my maples at all here in north fl and i know our weather is more humid than yours. Its raining currently actually

It looks pretty good, but how wide is the base?

To me, it looks like it needs to fatten up, but perhaps the base of the trunk is big?

If it isn't, I'd put it in a much bigger, deeper pot for the two or three years to come.
