Anybody tried to buy some lately? I usually find all sizes in Amazon at a decent price but nothing there. And on ebay the only sellers that have them are from Thailand or Canada with over $10 for shipping. I ended up buying some orchid long fiber sphagnum off Amazon, fingers crossed it is half decent. The last one I bought before buying Besgrow was full of hard twigs and a pain to shred for use as top dressing.

There is a squeeze on sphagnum, I'm guessing due to pandemic rise in horticulture as a hobby and also supply chain from New Zealand.

I always look for the cheapest moss on amazon whenever I run out, the last time was in 2019
2022: Mosser lee $13/0.25 cuft ($52/cuft)
2019: Mosser lee $47/ 2 cuft ($23.5/cuft)
Mosser lee is Wisconsin sphagnum which is not as high quality and may not be as sustainable as New Zealand. Mosser lee no longer sells large bales.
For comparison the cheapest New Zealand today is
2022: Super moss $52/ 0.4 cu ft ($130/cuft)

I placed an order for that one and noticed that the earliest delivery was mid-late April. I ended up ordering Legigo Premium Sphagnum Moss. I think it's probably going to be the same quality as the one sold at Lowes/Home Depot, so hopefully it is better.

Same thing happened last year at this time. There’s some environmental issues as well, but the Besgrow brand claims they harvest sustainably

Got some in the off season last year no problems. Hopefully this situation will be resolved by next year.

cheers

The moser lee stuff is full of sticks and is really poor quality. I found better-gro premium orchid moss at lowes for $5 and change. I was tempted to buy every one they had.
