Best trees for bonsai in Massachusetts/Rhode island

I am new to bonsai and currently have a weeping willow cutting, a delonix regia growing from seed and a Rocky Mountain pine seed germinating. I’m wonder what native tree species would be a good addition!

Although I have had a single bonsai for many years, I am new to pursuing bonsai as a hobby. I am working on developing a variety of native trees that we find on our property or nearby. I am collecting a few tamaracks (Larix laricina), hawthorn, swamp azalea (rhododendron viscosum, ours have pink flowers), a dogwood, Sargeants crabapple, and working on a landscape yew probably too large to pot.I am also developing some young nursery chinese junipers, obviously not native to our area. We had one juniper growing in our field, but it died before I could get interested in it as a potential bonsai. A farmer next to my daughter's former house in nearby NY state had a pasture littered with juniper. He attacked those plants with a bull dozer and I think many potential pre-bonsai trees went into a burn pile. So native juniper might be available in your area as farmers consider them a pest.

The only native I ever thought worth keeping when I lived in MA was the pitch pine, Pinus rigida. If I lived there now, I'd be looking for a good larch, Larix laracina, too.
