Was wondering what you guys thought about this scar.... depending on where you view the plant, the scar is looking like a reverse taper. Front view, it's not noticeable at all. Is there a method or way to remedy the problem? Thanks in advance.

Hi PGA,
Well, the scar is ugly but you knew that already. Your options are basically hide it or cut it off. It could heal over if you let the top grow freely for a few years, but it will always be ugly. At this point, you should step back and ask what else is wrong with this tree. To me, the ugliest part is the straight trunk above the first branch. Every thing above the first branch. If this were my tree, I would design it as a shohin based on just one of the first branches. You are lucky to have at least one good first branch. Let everything grow freely for now (as a sacrifice trunk ) in order to develop some girth and mature bark on the lower trunk. Remove all wires for now, so as to not put any scars on the lower trunk. Then in about 5 years, jin everything but the chosen first branch and then start the training from there.
Good luck.
Si
