I’ve never seen bird poop damage a leaf (I’m 95% sure this is bird poop). So either this one was one helluva shot and hit this existing dead spot, or the bird poop damaged the leaf. Is the damage from a pathogen or possibly fertilizer burn from the poop (which I’ve never seen before)? The mold on the understand appears to be opportunistic since I’ve seen it before under necrotic leaf margins. This is from a English Oak.

Any other ideas on the cause?

Birds have a chloaca, so they poopoopeepee from the same hole. This means their manure is both rich in ammonia as well as salts like magnesium, calcium, and so on. Dried, it makes excellent fertilizer! Though in a wet state it'll damage even cheap car paint and metal. Any serpent owner, or people living near water (herrons, seagulls) will admit that predator chloaca crap is even worse.
