yesterday the temp Hit 90 in my climate, and I haven been noticing that the color on my JBP needles have been turning a lighter shade of green. Two of the needles are just barely starting to brown at the tips. Does it need to be moved to a shadier spot, or is this from something else (overwatering, overfertilizing, etc).

90F and full sun is nothing to a JBP... they love it. Let's see a picture to see if there's really something going on with your tree. The color change might be nothing or it could indicate a root issue.
It would also help to know where you're located... you can add that info in your user profile.

Hey Brewing want to put your location in the avatar ?
You need the specialists ------- @Adair M and @markyscott

For my part needles go yellow and then redbrown, Location is full sun, 6.00 a.m to 3.30 p.m
Our hotter West Indian sun doesn't harm them, but you can tell which needles are older than a year.

I leave you to the experts.
Good Day

JBP will be a lighter green when grown in full sun. Much darker green when sited in a shady location. Give all the sun you can.

If your just starting out with Pines and you start having issues with the needles, well I gotta' figure it's your watering. Probably too much. Most problems for beginners stems from this issue, I believe.
Your learning, so observe, record and adjust. Use good, common sense horticultural practices and don't be in a rush....;):):):):):)
I'm learning as well. About three or four years working with Pines so I've a ways to go too!!!:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Here is the tree, the first pic is from the dieback on the two needles and the second is a few needles that are yellowing at the tip. The color change makes sense because when it arrived in the box about two weeks ago it was dark green, and now the needle color is getting lighter. I am in central NJ, I thought I put it in my profile

As much sun as you can get and don't water everyday.
I think those two needles got hurt in shipping.
Also I would take the moss out, there are conflict between it and the micorrhzae that it is working hard to establish.
Only use organic fertilizer, synthetic actually kills micorrhzae.

The two needles in the first picture were cut. The tips of cut needles will always turn brown. If they were green when you got it, that means they were recently cut.

The needles that are yellowing at the tip are last year's needles. They do that. The current year's needles are nice and green.

No worries.
