This is a beautiful tree. What a fortunate find, but the work done is lovely.

I did wonder if it was not a blackthorn when I first saw it actually. The colour of new growth, leaf shape, bark and habit look pretty similar to the Mirabelle plums we get round here (P. Domestica ssp Syriaca). Might be worth a look if you really want to ID it.

Could be Prunus Cerasifera, and it grows like a weed in Eastern Europe.

I was looking through a few likely alternatives like Mahaleb & Cerasifera and I think you're probably right. It seems the closest match. If it decides to flower that'll be the dead giveaway. Thanks for the suggestion, much appreciated 👍

This is a cerasifera yamadori that I am working on
First year of development.
not much but it will develop.

the leaves look similar and the fruits are also edible.
