I found this Blue Spruce a few years ago at the local nursery for $5.
Obviously no one in their right mind would buy this hideous thing, but I decided to give it a try for $5.

The only possible solution my local club and I could think of was literati.

I still have to work on the jin/shari a little more, but it is definitely smaller now! :)

I hate the handle-bar branches, but it's all I really had to work with.

Can you wire in some movement? Literati is not easy to do, especially with a straight trunk. I you bend it right, you might only have to use one of those branches. Do you have access to Naka's Bonsai Techniques II?

Yes, I will definitely be putting some bends in the trunk.
Good point about possibly not needing one of the branches.
Yes, I have Naka's II.

I want to give it some time to recover before I do more bending to it's main trunk.
I think I have done enough damage to it for now :)

Hello edro. I think if you are willing to wait a long time and do more work on this tree.. There is definite potential here. As far as the bar branching, you can cut one off or jin.. You will have to remove one or the other eventually to make the tree look balanced.. Depending on how you bend the trunk, may determine which one to keep...

Here are a few virts.. The first one is an example of choosing the branches.. the second 2 are with the right bar branch gone and the next one is with the left bar branch gone, both with a subtle curved trunk.

I hope some of this is helpful.

You're welcome.. Also, keep in mind to leave a couple of back branches for a 3 dimensional image..
