I have access to a 50 year old Blue Spruce tree that I would like to take a cutting from to make a future bonsai from I would like to know what is the best way to get the cutting to sprout?. Is it worth trying? The tree is really beautiful I think and I would love to have a miniature version of it.

I would suggest taking an air-layer instead of trying a cutting. Your chances of success will be better and you will save years of development time.

air layering

I thank you for the advice I just finished the process. I also buried one branch in the ground as someone told me that might work also. I hope it works because I noticed that some of the branches at the bottom are dead I dont know how much longer the big spruce will live.
