Been a while so I thought I'd start a new thread because I'm too lazy to look for my old one. I'll give a bit more details here than I would on the Book of Faces.89108947_10223699503742168_5452801126501974016_n.jpg89100279_10223699504102177_6172709431394959360_n.jpg

Bonsai Monday. A pair of Chinese elms... Leaving dormancy. Because you can never have too many "yer tree is ded..." comments....

Pots are production. Chinese bowl for accent. Snowflakes? Cherry blossoms?

"Greta". Just. Because.

I repotted a ton of the elm roots that I have been accumulating. Some of them are going to make interesting penjing/literati trees. I rarely even take branch cuttings anymore- these are probably a few cycles old- 2 or 3 years in a pot with other root cuttings then grown out another year or three in separate pots. Sometimes they might have even gotten watered and fertilized. Lot more action with roots cuttings with less effort. On to build some ramification on these. Apologies for the ratty sphagnum I threw on top on the way out this morning- need to keep the soil top moist in my air conditioned office. No time for chopping and sifting!

2 minimally styled species native to TX. Bald cypress and a cedar elm.

The bald cypress is sneaky. I wanted to repot it into one of my handmade pots and adjust the angle so the hollow area peeked out a bit more. It has been showing no signs of budding then literally overnight. I'll tame it with some wire and trimming once the growth hardens off. It is a very difficult one- it has a narrow trunk that is "dog-legged" making it difficult to rotate very much.

The cedar elm was a root cutting and was just repotted into a Mark Goodman round. Same deal, once it gets a chance to recover and is hardened off I will take it back to a more formal styling.

Been a while... As I was carrying this in I noticed a tiny tree frog on the upper trunk. Before I could snap a pic he had moved to the base (See the darker photo). Apparently he wanted to gift some swampy wisdom to me. Hence this tree shall be known as "Frogger". The pond scum green pot by Brian Soldano is just a happy circumstance!
