Brian,

I have never tried Cherry Laurel, nor have I heard of anyone else using them. Never the less, I think you should give them a try. They look like they have been in place, or at least pruned, for a while and may have some decent trunks inside the silhouette. Cherry Laurel are good plants in general, although the leaves are a little big.

Try it and enjoy.

Is it one nice trunk, or multiple small trunks?

I am not sure of the "bright and tight"...

But, the Carolina Cherry Laurel that we have around here
grow like weeds in the ground, and suck really bad when in a pot...
They are a pain to remove... and more than likely will not have a very
tight root ball, unless this particular tree had been grown in a
nursery pot for a while. Which means all the fine feeder roots will
be a long distance away from the trunk. Cutting these back will more
than likely kill it.

From my experience... I would leave this where it is...

Thanx for the advice everybody.....I'll leave these be.
