I'll be moving my family from Northern California (Fremont) to the NW suburbs of Chicago this summer. I'm planning on selling most of my bonsai collection before moving, but I'm considering bringing several trees with me. How is the bonsai scene in Chicago? What trees are people keeping there?
I have Coast Redwoods - lots of collected trees
Bougainvillea - some monsters the I collected over the years
And a few others.

I grew up in the Chicago area so I'm very familiar with winters there and I realize I'll have to bring the trees indoors for many months in later fall - early spring.

Welcome, the bonsai scene is strong and growing in size and skill.

Several local gardens and nursery are wonderful.

I currently spend a solid amount of time at Hidden Garden where yearly there are many workshops with masters, many native collected trees, and great people.

MBS is active with guest, monthly meetings, yearly spring and summer show at the Botanical Garden.

Welcome to the Chicago area! I'm only just getting into bonsai over here, so I'm interested in this thread too!
