Hello,
I am semi-new to bonsai. I've had a few different types that have survived over the past few years but they have always been in regular potting soil. I'd like to upgrade to a proper bonsai soil for each. I have a Japanese Maple, Blue Pacific Juniper, Eastern Red Bud, and a few variations of Jades.
In my research, I was seeing a mix of Akadama, pumice, and lava rock. Is this the best for all the types listed above? How do the plants absorb nutrients in such a loose medium without some sort of "compost soil"(like dirt)? Does this type of soil need to be watered every day? (depending on the pot size)
Any input is appreciated. I'd like to get them out of the regular potting soil I have them in now.
Thank you!
