APL.

Probly not soft Akadama.

Or you will call it mushy.

Akadama:lava: pumice, equal parts of each is the basic mix. Depending on species and your location, you may want more akadama for deciduous trees or more pumice for conifers.

Hey, I have a question regarding above post boons mix recipe, he adds 1/2 cup of decomposed granite/haydite (haydite is from his store for deciduous mix) and 1/2 cup horticultural charcoal per 5 gallon mix, rest is APL.
1/2 cup = about 120ml
5 gal = about 19 000ml
So 1/2 cup is like 0.63% of total 5 gallon mix. What is the purpose of adding such a small ingredient volume? Are those some sort of magical components? :D
Thanks!

Interesting question, at least about the granite.

Well the horticultural charcoal pretty much speaks for itself. It’s basically a long lasting microbiome enhancer, if all the research is still valid. The decomposed granite is only my guess - that he’s upping the weight albeit a tiny bit.

Maybe some of the folks that have attended Boon’s classes have some inside information on this?

cheers
