Just given very old Bougainvillia Yamadori - need to create nebari- trunk at the roots is 4" but increases to 6" diameter in just a few inches - need roots at beginning of larger diameter. Need method to use & time required. Don't know if I can live long enough ?

Pictures might help. Also, since it sounds like as you go up the trunk, it actually gets better, you could do an air layer. You could have a nice base on your tree in 1 season.
