Came across a Barbara Karst Bouganvaliea at Lowe's for $22. This one is significantly thicker than the others and has some interesting movement. About 2 inch trunk. Do bougis usually thicken up quickly? Is this worth a buy or nah?

Not a bad price and it is interesting. They do get thick pretty quick.

For the price, might as well. They don't sell them around here, I guess because they can't be landscape plants.

It's most interesting because the trunk is at least 4x as thick as every other one here for the same price. I guess they're priced by height, not thickness.

Here's a size comparison. Both are same price. Every other bougi looks like the one on the right.

It’s nicer than the one we got a few days ago for the same price.

I'll trade you these 4 for it :p

I would get it for sure. I bought these 4 sticks potted together and just separated them. Will likely take ages to get to where your prospective material is at especially in these pots. I'll probably just give them away as gifts...

Go for it!

You buy the the first few inches of a tree, the rest is subject to being eliminated in styling. $22 sounds good to me.

There are two large trunks on this tree and one needs to go.

Option A is a more upright S shape like you see in your mass produced ficus bonsai, it has awkward taper and will probably need to be chopped back and regrown. It might even itself out long term but I am not so confident.

Option B is a tighter S shape with more graceful taper. I'm leaning towards this shape but not completely sure.
