This boug is about 30 years or more old. Raspberry Ice variety. It got pulled from my bro’s old yard and was tossed in a terra-cotta with garden soil for years and years. Not enough sun and too much water rotted out the main girthy trunk but left a live vein in back. Some chunky deadwood on there.

I wacked it back and brought life back. The rock was to keep it up right and to fill the the rotted trunk gap.
The goal for this is and offset broom to the side of the deadwood apex. What do you think?

Keep or kill......!

I kind a like the weird look, knowing a weak nebari is frowned upon.

They have peculiar care requirements that I never figured out. All three of mine died in under a year. Maybe it's too cold here.

Might as well keep it. I've only had one small variegated one, it didn't last long. I have some others though, that are doing quite well. They're lovin' the heat we've been having here. Winters indoor are problematic, they throw their leaves to the floor in disgust when brought in, but in your zone you can probably leave it outside all year?

I’d keep it, I like funky. Have you considered exposing the deadwood all the way from jin to dead root jin similar to leaving a vein on a juniper I think. Half the tree would be deadwood, the other coated with live tissue. You’d wind up with a Twoface (Batman) tree. Could be interesting and a way to make use of both features into one flow.
