Was just wondering if this boxwood I dug up a few years ago has any potential or if I should just plant in the yard. And any advice as far as design would be appreciated. Not sure of variety but it stays green all year round and I live in St. Louis Missouri. Mini bic lighter for scale.

Plenty of interesting stuff happening in the trunk section so I'd say yes, this definitely has the potential to become a nice bonsai. It will be a longer term (multiple years) project though. Key will be getting some back budding going.

Weird bottom, traditional top. Since you're pretty well stuck with the bottom I'd embrace it and go for weird all the way. That probably means bringing that canopy way down and rebuilding it.
