About 25 years ago I dug up a boxwood hedge that had been kept trimmed to about 12 inches tall for a number of years. I ended up with about 40 plants which I gradually sold or used for club workshops or classes. Having three kids, I made the decision in the early 1990's that I couldn't continue to care for a large bonsai collection while devoting most of my free time to the kid's activities, soccer, Scouts, music, basketball, school, etc.. So I sold almost all of my trees and pretty much gave up the hobby. Ten years later I got the bug again and got back in my bonsai clubs and started rebuilding my collection. After I had attended a couple of meetings an old friend said she had a present for me. It was one of the boxwoods I had collected years ago and sold at a club sale. Here's how it looked when I got it back:

A couple of year later I repotted it as a landscape with some stones:
