This is just a little thread mostly for me so that I can look back on how things have progressed.

27th Feb, the seeds arrived and went through scarification and an overnight soak to be planted on the 28th.84EAB11D-6956-489D-9CCF-A26DAC764164.jpegE52449EA-F694-403F-8571-CFE25A950C46.jpeg

As early as March 5th there were signs of movement in the substrate. However it wasn’t until March 9th that the first one shed the seed husk and peeped out into the world with rather fat round little green leaves.

Others are sprouting but still hiding in their helmets.

The 3 Amigos this morning. Still some others sprouting but a little slower than these guys. The weather has been really dull the last couple of days so I feel a little bad for them that they haven’t been able to enjoy some partial sun. 4B539C9F-8A0A-4CF6-8A6F-4B9D7AB0D565.jpeg

The 3 Amigos are coming along, yes we are all sharing a pot for now and will be split off when much stronger.
#4 in the center looks like a lost cause, he has deformed seed leaves and everytime I go to throw him out his root is longer and I give him another chance. If he survives I’m going to have to name him Tyrion.

Germination rate wasn’t great but I’m just happy to have more than 1 in case something goes wrong along the way 😅.

I’m trying to give therm as much natural light as possible in this crazy spring weather but they get a good half days worth of moderate sun on a clear day.

Tyrion is determined to live! He put his head up sometime this afternoon (was not visible when I looked this morning) , but will he survive? Only time will tell.

A close up of the little guy. He still hasn’t managed to progress with opening up those tiny leaves but I am hoping the sun that is forecast for the next couple of days might change that.58A01494-9D51-4E25-B6BE-CA44842895F7.jpeg

Nice!!
I’ve really been “diggin” compound leaves lately.
My Parkinsonia sprouts where VERY similar.. I had a “tyrion” of sorts.. he STAYED dwarfed... View attachment 363474
Aww ain’t he cute! Yeah if this one survives I can’t imagine him catching up with his peers. Looking between the pictures of him I can see that he is straightening out very slowly. Could only be a matter of days before the stage is reached when those leaves stat to unfurl.

Oh I do NOT believe it this morning. Someone left the door open to the reptile room and the one idiot cat got in there....and CHOMPED my seedlings overnight 😩😩😩😱😱
Of the 3 big ones only 1 has any leaves left, Tyrion was uprooted but seems unharmed (very nice roots on him). I usually put them on a shelf for extra safety but didn’t yesterday...the only day I didn’t and this happens.

I am so mad at myself right now, I’ll post some pictures when I have cooled off but I guess I’ll have to order some more seeds and start over.

So here is the carnage. I was wrong...Tyrion has been harmed. All of them have had their growing tips torn off. No idea of there can be any recovery from this but I guess we wait and see.
New seeds are ordered but will probably not arrive until after Easter.

The most tragic part is that Tyrion OPENED HIS LEAVES for the first time the afternoon following the attack.
Here he is enjoying the sunshine today, complete with traces of cat hair from the assassin.

I don’t wanna jinx anything but that MIGHT be a curled up new shoot. He is so tiny that it’s super hard to tell...and I can’t find a magnifying glass.B975CB50-006F-4EFF-BB8D-BC92CD7407C9.jpeg
it is possible that he “might” go on to be the sole survivor of his seed packet. His remaining one branched sibling needs a name too if he manages to make it as well, any ideas?

Its tough but someday you will laugh about it. Dad always told me that no one ever promised that life would be fair.

It really summed up my 2021 so far, so much promise and then something swoops down and almost everything is destroyed. I’m really hoping at least Tyrion survives now as he is fast becoming my inspiration for “no matter what life throws at you....you can do it!”

edit: Also if Tyrion and his one armed pal make it...what am I gonna do with at most 10 more of them when the new seeds turn up? 😅😅😂.
