Just thought I would share my new Brazilian Rain Tree that I purchased at the CBE. (And figure out how to post pictures.)

What are your ideas and thoughts for this tree ???

The really cool thing about these is that they put
Out alot of new growth up and down the trunk...
Giving you often alot to work with.

I would suggest that you come up with an idea of
Where to move forward with it... I would plan on
Eliminating some of the branches as to not have
Such a perfect left / right stair stepping effect.

Thanks Sawgrass for your comments. I normally live with my trees for awhile before touching them. This little guy lost all his leaves after I brought him home and has just re-leafed out. I would consider removing some of the branches, but then I assume that the distance between branches who become excessive. I need to better understand the BRT so I can make better decisions.

Do you have some specific suggestions -- and when would be the best time to accomplish them?

The tree is naturally zig-zag shaped but otherwise too straight. Add some character by bending your trunk line and break the ZZ pattern. Note that BRT is very hard but this looks thin enough to bend. IF you'll attempt it, be sure to protect the bark, it can get damaged easily.

You can trim it after depending on how you bent it. Also note that those branches will feed the trunk line and create that sinewy trunk BRT is famous for...you do not want to impede that for now. :)

Also, do not rule out using one of the branches as new leader. You can use the top as cutting or airlayer for another tree if it interests you. ;)

Good luck!
