Today i noticed strange white flecks on the needles of seedlings sown outdoors in the autumn of 2008.
At first i thought bird droppings were responsible but the slight stickiness of the encrustations persuaded me otherwise.

Some slight excitement there as i had not expected this to occur at all let alone overnight on inch tall seedlings.

Not to burst your bubble but hopefully head off a problem Klytus, make sure it's not scale, I have seen scale on eastern white pines that looks like a dried resin so to speak white and a little fluff to it.

This is very normal for Bristlecones. Little white sticky resin on the needles. That is a good sign :)

Scale...thankfully it isn't that.

It does mean i can identify any impostors, those that became mixed up in the seed tray.

They look healthier and more numerous than the Armandii and Bungeana i sowed at the same time.

In fact i think my Bungeana=Zero.
