This is a volunteer that I found in my garden and put in a forest pot with some river birch this spring. Once the leaves came out it was clearly not a birch, so I hacked it back hoping to kill it.
But this little guy is a survivor and decided to throw a hundred shoots from the chop site.

So I tell this little sweetgum, "OK, you can live under one condition. You must battle it out with a bunch of other tiny trees on an online forum called Bonsai Nut and take top prize."
The sweetgum agreed.

Put it in its own pot and put some wire on it. This one might even end up mame size. I’ll try to get it into a smaller pot in a year or two46A6CAD5-0EC2-4049-B1B7-EB4A04579FEC.jpeg

This one did great last year…and then it never woke up from winter nap :(
I think it was the 3 degrees F that we saw last Christmas (much earlier very hard freeze than usual)
